Green Building Council CEO to Speak in the Adirondacks

Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chairman of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in Washington, D.C. will Keynote the 19th Annual Conference on the Adirondacks this May 16th and 17th, 2012 at the High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid, NY. The (USGBC) is a non-profit trade organization that promotes sustainability in how buildings are designed, built, and operated. USGBC is best known for the development of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating systems. Many LEED designed buildings can now be found throughout the North Country. A widely sought-after speaker, Rick gives more than 100 speeches and presentations a year and frequently engages White House and Congressional staff in promoting green building through public policy at the local, state and federal levels. The Annual Conference on the Adirondacks is presented by the Adirondack Research Consortium, a not-for profit organization based at Paul Smith’s College. It features two-days of presentations on community sustainability, entrepreneurship, energy, and the environment. One-Day Alternative Onsite Wastewater Treatment Training

Onsite Wastewater Options for Small Rural Communities in the Adirondacks

You are invited to join us at The View in Old Forge to discuss Onsite Wastewater Options for Small Rural Communities in the Adirondacks. This specialized training event is focused on discussing onsite wastewater treatment options to improve septic system performance and meet state and local regulatory requirements. The Adirondack area offers many challenging site conditions that require unique system designs using conventional and advanced technologies to protect drinking water resources.

Advances in onsite wastewater treatment technologies provide communities with options for challenging sites that will provide for better treatment and more protection of public health and the environment. Many communities are faced with site limitations that prevent the use of a conventional septic system or a community system that is old and needs to be upgraded. We will discuss some commercially available alternative onsite wastewater treatment technologies that can address the many shortfalls of conventional systems in challenging topographic areas.

The program includes in-depth morning presentations and an afternoon field-trip to visit installed systems. For the most up-to-date event and program information, go to the Adirondack Research Consortium's web page.

Continuing education credits are available for engineers, planners, zoning enforcement officers, and government officials. Conference fee is $100.

Rick Fedrizzi to Keynote Annual Conference on the Adirondacks

Rick Fedrizzi, President and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in Washington, DC, will keynote the 19th Annual Conference on the Adirondacks in Lake Placid this May 16th and 17th, 2012.

Rick was appointed President & CEO of the rapidly growing organization in April 2004. Under his leadership, USGBC has undertaken a far-reaching agenda that has tripled its membership, broadened its influence, and cemented its role as a leadership voice in the global sustainability movement.

A cornerstone of that agenda has been USGBC's internationally recognized LEED green building certification program. The growth of LEED has led to more than 151,000 individuals earning either the LEED AP or LEED Green Associate professional credential.

The Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a 501 c3 non-profit organization committed to a prosperous and sustainable future for our nation through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings.With a community comprising 78 local affiliates, nearly 16,000 member companies and organizations, and more than 170,000 LEED Professional Credential holders, USGBC is the driving force of an industry that is projected to contribute $554 billion to the U.S. gross domestic product from 2009-2013. The Adirondack Research Consortium invites researchers of national, regional, and local expertise to present their latest scientific research at the 19th Annual Conference on the Adirondacks in Lake Placid, NY, on May 16th & 17th, 2012.

This is an invitation to submit an abstract of a paper to be presented in a panel discussion at the conference. Individuals may also choose to submit an abstract for a poster to be displayed
throughout the proceedings which will include an opportunity to meet other conference attendees to discuss it. The Annual Conference on the Adirondacks is a forum for researchers to present current information on natural, social, economic, cultural, and recreational resources,
as well as, an opportunity to bring people with diverse backgrounds together in
collaborative efforts.
